Black Blog Graphic with Blog Title in White and Yellow Text

Facebook is hot property in growing your Trade and Construction marketing.

🔥 It’s free.

🔥 Relatively easy to use.

🔥 Quick to access on the go.

There are hundreds of thousands of Trade and Construction businesses using Facebook.

Yet we see so many doing it wrong.

We see even more miss out on some epic little tricks that could help their page generate more enquiries.

And play a big part in turning enquiry to job.

Cha Ching. 💰

So we’re going to share with you some ‘tricks of the trade’ that you could use to level up your Facebook brand and marketing.

But.

Before we absolutely NAIL these Intermediate Trade and Construction Facebook Brand and Marketing tricks, I’m going to take it that you have NAILED the basics.

Right?

You will need to double check those 5 tricks are in the bag before you crack on with the intermediate.

Grab those golden nuggets right here if you haven’t already.

Great.

1. Set up the Facebook Services Tab for your Trade and Construction marketing.

Not enough Trade and Construction business owners know this even exists.

But is one of our favourite little tools on Facebook.

This is a tab on your Facebook page that allows you to list all the different services you offer within your Trade and Construction business.

Why is this good?

✅ Customers can quickly see if you offer the service we need – quicker, better experience for us.

✅ Even if we’re not interested in everything you offer, we can see the extent of your company skillset which plays a big part in our first impressions.

✅ Great way to share any unique skills you might offer in your Trade and Construction business e.g. Venetian Plastering if you were a decorating company.

✅ Quick way to upsell services that we didn’t even think to ask you about.

Here's what the services tab looks like:

Really clear, clean way to show off what you offer, right?

Bit more along the lines of your website in terms of giving specific information – just not as lengthy.

Let’s take a peek at setting this up.

Once you’ve set the Service Name, you can set the price.

If you have some services that are a set price – let’s say a call out fee for our plumbers – you could put this here.

Of course, for Trade and Construction services where a bespoke quotation is needed - like the example of GARDEN ROOMS for our building and construction client - you can select options such as ASK FOR PRICE and STARTING FROM – which could be one way to help avoid time wasting enquiries.

We love a bit of price transparency.

It's all there to choose from.

You can select appointment duration (where applicable) or turn that off completely.

Plus.

You get to add an image – which is the perfect opportunity to showcase a photo or to get your branding in with a designed icon – and let that service stand out on your Trade and Construction Facebook page.

It's a really slick little tool and when used right, can give your customers a lot of information that helps generate enquiries, upsell and avoid time wasters.

Living the dream. 💭

2. Make sure your Trade and Construction Facebook Profile Image stands out on your page.

This can be a really quick, easy one to fix.

But makes a huge difference.

There’s more noise on Social Media than a demolition site.

With millions of posts going up day in day out, how do you break through that noise to get your Trade and Construction business noticed?

Well, it starts small.

Like everything.

Take a look at your profile image.

That’s the small circle shape on your page that is also what shows up when we are searching for you.

Your logo should be here.

What you’ll notice on pretty much all the social media planforms is that they are predominantly white in background colour.

Why?

So that the content you upload – your photos, your videos, your posts – is the focus.

Not their brand.

Clever.

If white is then the main colour used across social media as the background, then to stand out you need to make sure you don’t blend in, right?

Which means avoiding white in your profile image – where possible.

If you have all the design files of your logo, try using the one with the coloured background for your profile image.

Just like our decorating client has here:

Screenshot of Decorators Business Facebook Page

Our decorating client could have used his yellow hexagon logo on a white background.

But we advised him to use the logo on the blue.

When we go to search for them on Facebook, and get a list of pages with similar names, their Trade and Construction company page certainly stands out with that royal blue against the white background.

I’ve also seen this happen for a commercial cleaning company client of ours.

Whenever people were asking for cleaning recommendations online and everyone was tagging our cleaning client in the post (who has a light blue logo on a charcoal background for her profile image) we were always amazed at how much her page recommendation always stood out in the comments – as all the other cleaning companies used mostly white profile images.

Meaning her business got noticed.

And she ended up with a shed tonne of enquiries.

A small but mighty difference.

If you have the files, try using your logo (icon preferably) on a coloured background to stand out amongst all the noise.

3. Create an introduction video and pin it to the top of your Trade and Construction Facebook page.

This is such a powerful little idea.

And you don’t need a professional video production agency to help you with this, necessarily.

You can do this on your phone.

Why not record a little introduction video to your Trade and Construction Facebook page?

This is a chance for us to meet ‘you’.

Wearing branded workwear of course, introduce yourself, your business name, who you help and what problems you solve.

For example.

Our residential construction client might introduce himself along these lines…

‘Hi. I’m Alan and I run The Building Company - where we change lives through design and build. We’re on a mission to help growing families around North London create more space in the home and area that they love, so they don’t have to uproot their families. We also help add thousands of pounds to the sale of the home in the future. We do this through our bespoke loft and extension designs. It’s great to be here on Facebook and if we’ve helped you in the past feel free to pop a hello in the comments. Look forward to helping our new contacts transform your lives and homes. What problems do you have with your current home design that you’d love to solve?’

It’s short and sweet, but a winner.

It even includes asking questions to encourage folk to leave comments.

Which will help up your engagement too.

One of our decorating clients did just this for his Facebook page…

Screenshot of Facebook Live Decorator introducing himself to potential clients

Created it on his home webcam.

But made for a great introductory video.

Proving you can do it yourself.

Long term.

If you can buddy up with a video production team to create you a super high quality introduction video, then go for it!

You can use it on your website too if it’s super polished.

(Want to work with a professional video team? You can always ask us if you need help.)

4. Be consistent with the quality and quantity of posts on your Trade and Construction Facebook marketing.

Think of Social Media as the sketchbook to your business.

It doesn’t have to be perfect.

For example.

The photos you upload can be mid-way through a job when the site is unfinished.

On your website, you’d need fully polished photos – especially on your Homepage.

On your Live videos, it’s ok if you stumble on your words.

On your website, these should ideally be edited out of the videos.

Social Media allows us to not be so slick.

We need to be real.

But we also need to be professional.

So making sure the photos we upload – even of an unfinished site – are still tidy in terms of rubbish in the background.

*Unless you are of course a rubbish removals business.

✅ We still need to see you and your team in your branded workwear.

✅ It's important that you speak politely and professionally on your videos.

✅ And that your statuses (the words that you post up with your image or video for your Trade and Construction marketing) have correct spelling and grammar.

So that’s quality out of the way.

Onto quantity.

There is zero point posting on your Trade and Construction Facebook page once every month.

Or four times a year.

No way.

Social Media – be it Facebook, Instagram, or any of the others – thrive on you feeding the machine.

So, they are going to favour those who show up more.

You want eyeballs on your Trade and Construction business?

Then show up regularly.

If you’re a newbie, then try out with once a week.

Then build up to twice a week within 2 months.

There is nothing more off-putting to us than visiting your Trade and Construction Facebook page to see that the last time you posted anything on there was 9 months ago.

💭 Are you still in business?

💭 Are you any good?

💭 If you neglect your business marketing will you be neglecting my job?

…just some of the things that run through our minds when we see that you aren’t taking your own marketing seriously.

It’s that age old saying.

‘How you do anything is how you do everything.’

In an ideal world, you want to be posting about 3 to 4 times a week on your Facebook page.

With Live videos thrown in for good measure – at least once a week.

Speaking of which…

5. Bite the bullet – Go live on your Trade and Construction Facebook page regularly.

Going ‘Live’ as part of your Trade and Construction Facebook marketing could turn out to be one of the single biggest game-changers in your Trade and Construction business.

Why?

Because we get to see you on site… live.

🗣 We get to hear your voice explain to us where you are and what you’re doing.

☺️ We get to see the faces of the Trades that may end up in our own homes and businesses.

📝    We get to experience how you manage a job.

🛠    We get to judge for ourselves the quality of your workmanship.

🏡    We get to learn how to prevent problems or damage in our properties.

There are SO many reasons to go live.

✅ Lives are quick.

✅   Lives are easy to do.

✅   Lives are free.

✅   Lives change the game.

We’ve seen Trades transform their entire businesses by showing up on camera live, more often.

Because we have got to know them, personally.

Through our phones I mean.

So, when we are finally ready to get that Tree Surgeon in, or that Decorator, or that Plumber, THAT Trade (who we’ve been seeing popping up on our Facebook page) is front and centre of our minds to reach out to.

⚠️ WARNING!

As easy as Lives can ‘make you’ they can also ‘break you’ too, if not done well.

❌ Being unprofessional.

❌ Sloppy with your actions.

❌ Swearing on camera.

❌ Driving whilst going Live!! (How many times I’ve seen this – DO NOT DO THIS!!!)

Not enough Trades bite the bullet and utilise Facebook Lives for their business.

Not enough.

It is one of our FAVOURITE tools.

But we also totally understand that getting on camera can be TERRIFYING if you’ve never done it before.

Worried about getting on camera for your Trade and Construction business?

We’ve got you covered.
